'Vataulua: Communication in Third Space' screened recently at the Nuku'alofa film festival 2017. The documentary is an outcome of my recent research project related to Aesthetic Systems of Participatory Painting (ASOPP) and the social potential of painting. The project was based in Tonga and I partenred with the amazing On the Spot Arts Initiative. Collaborators included Seleka International Arts Society, Vaiola Hospital Psychiatric Ward, Ahopinallolo Technical College, Women and Children Crisis Centre and open workshops. The University of Melbourne funded the project.

ASOPP projects expand modernist, individualised aesthetic systems to accommodate a social application. Projects explore collective communication while reconsidering the social origins of art.

Music in this clip is called 'neu nofo hifo o fifili' by the amazing Anais Anau-kihe Sina Tu'imala Kaho. Written by Unga Afuhanamanga

Malo aupito to my friends and collaborators. Much love and respect.

Big thanks to Marnie Badham, Danny Butt and Lachlan Macdowall from the University of Melbourne.
